Training Opportunities Offered by BMS

Basic Mediation Training:  Provides 33 hours of basic mediation training, that focuses on experiential learning in role-play settings. This training includes three hours of Ethical Standards training. Our trainers teach the facilitative mediation model with references to the transformative mediation model. Each participant acts as a co-mediator in at least three role-plays. Follow-up mentoring in Small Claims Court and written evaluation of each participant are necessary for on-going work with Berkshire Mediation Services. Cost: $600 per person.

Small Claims Court Training: Provides five hours of training in how to work in the courts, including two role-play opportunities. This training requires Basic Mediation Training and is necessary for those who wish to do mentoring in Small Claims court.  Cost: $25 per person.

Divorce Mediation Training:  Provides 24 hours of training that prepares experienced mediators to offer divorce and post-divorce  mediation. Lawyers and lawyer-mediators provide necessary legal information so that mediators know their boundaries. The product of mediation is a written memorandum of understanding on division of property and shared parenting. Issues of custody, child support, insurance and retirement are also addressed. The parties are encouraged to have their understanding reviewed legally before developing a separation agreement. Cost: $600 per person.

Parent/Child Mediation Training:  Provides 24 hours of  training based on the transformative mediation model. This training is led by ahighly experienced trainer who provides transformative mediation training to the U. S. Postal Service. This model offers experienced mediators the opportunity to expand their skills so as to be more flexible in adapting their work to the needs of the parties, or “following the parties”, skills which are especially useful in workwith families and with folks who have intensive on-going relationships. Cost: $600 per person.

Basic Mediation Training Workshop Description

This33-hour course is designed for participants who want to learn the general practice of mediation, a widely accepted form of dispute resolution, applicable to a broad range of disputes. The training is highly interactive, combining role-play practice and presentations. Opportunities for internship are available through Berkshire Mediation Services to those who successfully complete the training. Berkshire Mediation Services is an approved program pursuant to the Massachusetts Supreme Courts’ Rules on Dispute Resolution.

Scheduling Information:

Thirty-three hour workshop to be offered periodically, with the following typical training hours:

 Friday  6pm to 9pm
 Saturday  9am to 6pm
 Sunday  2pm to 6pm
 Wednesday  6pm to 9pm
 Friday  6pm to 9pm
 Saturday  9am to 5pm
 Sunday  2pm to 6pm
